Behind the Bag: Amy of Oh Happy Home

Behind the Bag: Amy of Oh Happy Home

Today we're going behind the bag with Amy of Oh Happy Home, who create some of the most beautiful rugs. I love their mission to end child labour and all their stunning pieces are designed in Australia. Oh, how I love Australian creatives!

Who are you and what do you do?

I am Amy, married to Paul and have three lovely boys aged 6-15 years. We live in Albany WA, about 5 hrs away from Perth but I get to manage my business, Oh Happy Home, which is based in Perth from here! I am very lucky to live in such a beautiful place plus be able to work with amazing artisans and create my own range of fair trade rugs and homewares!

What is the most beautiful thing you own?

An oil painting my mum just painted of my family on holidays at a beach in Denmark. The photo she painted from was taken before we decided to make the Great Southern home so it is pretty special that we actually live down here now!

What is the most practical thing you own?

My Apple Watch seems to keep me on task and up to speed on the days events! Also tells me to breathe every so often.

What must you have in your bag before you leave home?

As little as possible! - I usually just take my very small bag so I can't carry everyone else stuff like drink bottles etc... I was sick of being the pack horse. I always have a lipstick handy in there too.

Which travel destination is next on your bucket list?

Morocco, Spain, Portugal

What products or brands are you loving at the moment - fashion, homewares or beauty?

Out with Audrey - Perth based too and they give next day delivery which is pretty amazing when you live in the country. I also love Albany based Vic and Velour who sell online. Homewares - can't go past Relaax homewares who shares our showroom in Subiaco. Beauty - my sister - aka Exhale Beauty in Hillarys in Perth - although I rarely get there which is such poor form.

What are you reading, watching or listening to?

I have just got back into reading novels more often. I just finished All the Light We Cannot See - brilliant read and now halfway through Eryie by Tim Winton.

Which bag would you reach for - the classic neutrals or the statement metallic gold or silver?

I naturally go for the neutrals - tans, browns and olives as they go with everything I wear daily.

Which is your favourite bag from the Bahru collection and why?

My little black Mini Florence. I wear it everyday over my shoulder and don't take it off to get in and out of the car. It also then slips easier into my bigger Bahru bags when I need to carry more. I basically have been using the same two bags for the past two years.
